What is the Global Immersion Program?
FFI’s Global Immersion Program brings together approximately 10 young people ages 15–18 from countries around the world for a multi-phase leadership program culminating in an international residential experience at FFI’s Center in Annalong, Northern Ireland.
Who can apply to the Global Immersion Program?
Young people ages 15–18 from countries around the world may apply. Because FFI has separate programs for U.S. and Ireland/Northern Ireland participants, applicants to the Global Immersion Program currently cannot reside in the United States, Northern Ireland, or the Republic of Ireland.
How many students are selected?
Approximately 10 young people are selected each year, creating a deliberately small and highly international team.
Where does the program take place?
After completing required virtual programming, participants travel to FFI’s Center in Annalong, Northern Ireland, for an approximately 10–14-day residential experience.
Do participants need to speak fluent English?
Yes, participants must be proficient in English in order to participate.
Does my child need previous international travel experience?
No. Students do not need to be experienced international travelers to apply. Applicants should, however, understand that the program requires independence, adaptability, participation in a diverse team, and a willingness to try unfamiliar experiences. While FFI will coordinate all travel plans, participants will be traveling internationally on their own.
Who arranges international travel?
FFI coordinates travel for accepted participants. Specific travel arrangements are communicated to families before the program.
What costs does FFI cover?
FFI covers 100% of program costs for accepted participants, including program-related travel, housing, meals, activities, and programming. Participants are responsible for obtaining and paying for their passport and any required visa.
What happens if my child needs a visa to enter the United Kingdom?
Participants and their families are responsible for obtaining any required visa and passport. FFI will provide instructions and program documentation to support the process, but the participant remains responsible for meeting the applicable immigration requirements.
What will my child gain from participating with students from other countries?
The program intentionally brings together young people with different cultures, experiences, identities, and perspectives. Participants learn to communicate across differences, work as a team, build confidence, develop leadership skills, and better understand both their own identity and the experiences of others.
What happens when participants return to their home countries?
The program does not end when participants leave Northern Ireland. Students continue developing a Community Action Project addressing a need in their own community and can remain connected to FFI through its international alumni network.
